Bacchae Fragments for 12 percussionists (2006) was commissioned by the Lucerne Festival Academy for the Lucerne Percussion Group. It was premiered in Lucerne under the direction of Michel Cerutti on September 6, 2006 at Theatre La Fourmi. Much of the material in this piece was derived from music originally written for a production of Euripides' Bacchae at Columbia University. Specifically, the faster, more rhythmic music in this piece originated as settings of the 1st and 3rd choral odes from the tragedy.
